ring of 8 bells hung at CLOCK MILL CAPHEATON
NORTHUMBERLAND Tenor weighing 10lb 11oz in
G cast by HIGBY and BOWDITCH of Chilcompton
Bath UK each bell is dedicated to a member
of the Davis family dating back to 1720. Sharing
a barn with Elsie the cross Black Berkshire
and Tamworth sow, 2 horses and loads of chickens,
ringers with a delicate sense of smell should
bring nasal protection equipment. Ringers
are welcome by appointment for general ringing
or quarter peals. The first peal on the bells,
Plain Bob Major was rung on December 1st 2002
in 2hours 20 mins by members of the St Marys
Whickham Sunday service band. It was the first
attempt by Jenny Davis.
Installed in memory of the Rev. Canon Cheslyn
Jones of Oxford and Lilian Kathleen Oliver
of Whittonstall Northumberland. Bed and Breakfast
accomodation is available and real ale from
the Wylam brewery is on tap at the nearby
Kirkharle
coffee house open daily 10am till 5pm.
